Investigación e Innovación Clínica y Quirúrgica Pediátrica published its first issue in June 2023. It was established to address the need for a specialized forum for disseminating scientific knowledge relevant to pediatric health and bringing together contributions in clinical medicine, surgery, public health, biomedical engineering, and health management.
The journal’s inclusion in the Latindex Catalog 2.0 in 2025 marked the beginning of an editorial development plan with regional and international scope (1,2). In 2026, its inclusion in Dialnet, PERIÓDICA (integrated into the Biblat portal), and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) (3-5) expanded the channels through which its content can be discovered and accessed.
The growth of Investigación e Innovación Clínica y Quirúrgica Pediátrica has largely depended on the authors who submitted their manuscripts and on responsible editorial management grounded in rigorous peer review. This joint effort has helped establish the journal as a reliable outlet for scientific communication.
Initiatives such as the special issue on neuroscience have demonstrated the editorial team’s ability to foster and coordinate collaboration between the Instituto Nacional de Salud del Niño San Borja and other institutions around a common theme. Similarly, the publication of issues in Indigenous languages reflects the journal’s commitment to the country’s linguistic diversity and to more inclusive scientific communication.
The journal’s progressive inclusion in various scientific information systems has been accompanied by improvements in its editorial indicators. As part of this process, measures have been implemented to maintain a regular publication schedule, increase the proportion of original contributions, reduce institutional endogamy among authors, and expand the participation of external reviewers and editorial board members, thereby contributing to greater diversity of perspectives and professional networks. Taken together, these advances reflect greater institutional openness and increasingly robust editorial management.
Our next challenge is to improve editorial management indicators by increasing scientific output and publication frequency, while also expanding the participation of authors, reviewers, and editors affiliated with institutions in other countries. As we move forward, we invite authors to continue publishing in the journal and reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that it remains a rigorous, open, and relevant forum for scientific communication. We are confident that this shared effort will contribute to achieving inclusion in additional indexing databases and strengthening the journal’s position in the field of child health.
